Western Leisure Centre

About The Project

The roofing works at Western Leisure Centre in Cardiff were completed directly for Cardiff County Council and were divided into two separate phases throughout the last 2 years.

The job involved the renewal of the flat roofs and installation of new Mansafe/Fall arrest system (pictured above). The existing flat roofs had been repeatedly overlaid in the past as they were made up of three different waterproofing systems upon a core sample taken by Bauder Waterproofing Ltd. Upon Bauder’s inspection it was recommended that the existing waterproofing was to be completely stripped back to the original deck, and a new BauderFLEX waterproofing system to be installed incorporating Bauder 120mm PIR FATE insulation to meet current building regulations.

Similar to the previous case studies this leisure centre remained live and in use while we carried out the roofing work. Our onsite Site Manager liaised with the client at the Leisure Centre daily to ensure smooth running of the site, resolving any issues or queries that were brought up. The rear area of the Leisure Centre was allocated to us to set up a secure compound, fully fenced off with Heras fencing to encapsulate the Welfare, Storage, and other materials. Ensuring the compound was completely secure was very important as intruders have previously tried gain access to our equipment.

About The Project

The roofing works at Peter Lea School were carried out directly for Cardiff Council. Like Rhiwbina Primary School the school remained live and in use throughout the duration of work. Our compound was allocated at the rear playground, fully fenced off with Heras fencing to encapsulate the Welfare, Storage, and other materials. Due to the tight single lane access and location of the site there were various logistical issues, all deliveries delivered by articulated lorries had to be offloaded outside the school and moved into our compound through using a forklift. All deliveries to site had to be timed, between the hours of 6:45am to 8:30am and no earlier than 4:30pm in the evening.

The roofing works at Peter lea included a full renewal of all flat roof areas split into phases as shown below:

A programme of work and a phased roof plan is issued to the client prior to commencement of works. The detailed programme and roof plan will highlight the key milestones and works required to specific areas with dates to demonstrate our time on site.

The existing Asphalt was repaired in areas where defective and prepared for the installation of a new BauderFLEX Roofing system incorporating a 120mm insulation board to meet current building regulations, all external gutters and outlets also replaced as a part of the works.

The works also included the full renewal of the existing roof lantern, including all internal works associated, such as the ceiling construction.

Rhiwbina Primary School

About The Project

The roofing works completed at Rhiwbina Primary School was completed for Cardiff County Council, as a part of our Roofing Framework Agreement. The work included the renewal of the pitched & flat roofs (pictured above). The existing Cambrian slate pitched roof was completely stripped, and a new Britmet 2000 system was installed on new felt and new treated batten, While the existing flat roof areas were overlaid using Alumasc’s Caltech QC liquid waterproofing system.

The roofing work at Rhiwbina Primary school was carried out throughout the winter months whilst the school remained live and in use, while this was challenging our onsite Site Manager liaised with the client daily to ensure smooth running of the site, resolving any issues or queries that arose. We were allocated a section of the rear playground to set up a compound, the compound was fully fenced off with Heras fencing to encapsulate the Welfare, Storage, and other materials.

The efficient communication was vital as the weather was difficult and the programme was tight. Work hours were adapted subject to school opening times and road closures, similarly any deliveries to site were scheduled before or after school hours due to the restricted access and live school.
